Tex Miles Songs

Tex Miles has released their self-titled debut CD, featuring these tracks:

Dear John

This tune was written by Art in the summer of 2000 about a girl who broke up with him before he was ready. Originally, Art played this by himself in rehearsal during the Looking For Art days. Steve took the recording and dubbed drums over the guitar with the aid of a reel-to-reel player (remember those, kids?), and delivered a CD of this rough mix. The song on the debut CD is fairly identical to the power of that original demo.

Celebrity

Written by Steve and refined by Art in the summer of 2004. This was inspired by Steve's reading of on an excellent article in Mojo written by Peter Paphides about Thom Yorke of Radiohead fame. After reading the article, Steve felt somewhat sympathetic to the isolation stardom can induce, then he felt like someone should smack Thom upside his head to get over himself already, and finally was left with this nagging feeling that it was all a big money-making act. I'm sure we'll never know, but at least we have this rocking tune as a tribute to this prog-rocker.

Crawford Street

This was written by Art in London at a pub on Crawford Street sometime in 1999. It is about getting older, looking back somewhat wistfully, perhaps romantically, at the future and the past simultaneously.

Heaven

This is a classic rocker written by Art in 2002, about parts of the South he visited during his days on the golf tours and how they feel like heaven. Steve, who never traveled through the South prior to 2004, finally understood the song after a stop in South Carolina.

Misery

This tune was largely written by Steve in the summer of 2000, with lyrics coming along in 2002. Misery is a lamentation about being single, the inspiration being Steve's memories of life at Penn State prior to meeting his wife of 16 years, Adele.

Big Country

This classic 1980s tune was discussed as a cover during the Looking For Art days. Art and Steve carried on and kept the dream to play this tune live. The Tex Miles version is stripped down and packs a fast punch. Indeed, a club owner heard the two-man version of Tex Miles play this live, only to come out of his office and be amazed it was only two guys.
